Foothills Reflexology provides individual reflexology treatments using the Duopody technique devised by Sue Alma Evans of the Inspira Academy. Duopody is highly effective technique in which both feet are treated at the same time, working methodically through the reflected body systems to restore balance and encouraging the body to self- heal.
Alongside the Duopody technique, a wide range of complementary reflexology techniques may be used.
Reflexology for stress relief
80% of illness is stress-related, so if we manage our stress levels we can allow our bodies to re-balance and our health and well-being to improve.
The human body is designed to experience stress and react to it by releasing stress hormones to enable the body to re-balance. Whilst our modern lifestyle has provided many benefits, it has unfortunately led to many of us being in a constant state of stress or anxiety, which can have a huge negative effect on not only our lives but our body systems too. When a person is constantly in a state of stress, without relief or relaxation, the over exposure to cortisol and other hormones released and remaining in the body can lead to many emotional and physical health issues, including disrupted sleep, impeded digestion, a suppressed immune system, increased blood pressure, headaches and migraines, fertility issues, chest pains, impaired memory and concentration.
Reflexologists have been trained to help balance the mind and body and sustain the natural equilibrium through the stimulation of pressure points. Reflexology has been shown to relieve and reduce stress and tension in the body, improve well-being and lessen susceptibility to stress related disease.
You may not be able to reduce the stress in your life, but why not call and book a reflexology session to help your body cope with the stress.
Reflexology for fertility
Although, one in seven couples may have difficulties in conceiving, infertility is a very personal and often distressing subject for many. It can be a time when stress levels can increase, and for women who have been trying to conceive for a long time, they can suffer symptoms of anxiety or depression.
However, feeling anxious or stressed can itself be detrimental to fertility. When the body is stressed it produces the hormone Cortisol, which then instructs the body to produce another inhibitory hormone which reduces the production of a follicle stimulating hormone and luteinising hormone, both of which are integral to the release of the egg and implantation.
Reflexology can aid infertility on several levels. Firstly, reflexology can induce deep states of relaxation, thereby reducing stress levels on the body. Secondly, during a Duopody reflexology treatment, we stimulate the reproductive organs through the autonomic nervous system and balance hormonal function. Furthermore, reflexology can unblock energy pathways in the body to help it regain its natural balance and heal itself, correcting the imbalances which can hamper pregnancy. Ideally, it should be considered for both parties in preparation for pregnancy.
Reflexology for maternity care
A woman’s body changes in so many ways during her pregnancy. Reflexology can be used to re-balance the systems in the body with particular attention to hormonal changes caused by the endocrine system.
During the 2nd trimester, reflexology can be beneficial to treat any symptoms or ailments present, or purely for relaxation and re-balance.
In the 3rd trimester, shorter reflexology sessions can be offered to help mum achieve relaxation and relief on this beautiful journey.
Reflexology for pallative care
Palliative care is designed to provide people with serious illnesses with relief from symptoms, pain, and physical and emotional stress.
The role of reflexology in the field of palliative care is growing in importance and is now being acknowledged in many cancer hospitals and hospices. Reflexology can be used to alleviate symptoms and side-effects of treatment and bring comfort to patients and improve their well-being. Treatments are adapted for palliative care in terms of length of sessions and depth of touch. A feather light touch can be used depending on individual needs, along with the CALM technique to relax and re-balance energy in the body.
